Call for Papers

The Organizing Committee welcomes both fundamental and empirical contributions within the broad theme of advances in tourism economics and management. As a social science, economics has a long history of integrating inputs from other research spectrums. For this reason, and also because this reality is even more striking in the interdisciplinary field of tourism economics, the 2009 conference welcomes also papers stemming from other areas of tourism research, once that a strong theoretical background is provided and a particular interest on the workings and prospects of the tourism markets worldwide is shown.

Papers (with a maximum of 25 pages, double spaced, font Times New Roman 11) should be written in English, French, Spanish, Portuguese or Italian. However, all sessions will be held in English. Therefore, all papers written in a language other than English should also include an enlarged summary of two pages in English.

The main research topics suggested are:

  • Tourism Demand and Supply Issues
  • Modelling and Forecasting in Tourism
  • The Economic Impact of Tourism
  • Tourism Marketing and Management Issues
  • Economic and Management implications of E-tourism
  • Economic Sustainability and Tourism
  • Environmental Issues in Tourism
  • Tourism and International Trade
  • Innovation and Competitiveness in Tourism
  • Transport Systems for Tourism
  • Tourism Policies and Development
  • Tourism Planning and Regional Policies
  • The Economic History of Tourism

Any research work specifically oriented to other areas of the economic analysis of tourism might be also accepted for presentation if considered of relevance for the field in question throughout the blind refereeing process upheld.

The abstracts of all papers selected for presentation will be available on line at the Conference website. Moreover, a selection of papers written in English will be published in book form as a main output of the Conference. The conference will be held over one and a half days. After the opening session on the morning of the first day (Thursday, 23 April 2009) a set of parallel sessions will follow with paper presentations after lunch and on Friday morning.

An enlarged abstract with a maximum of 500 words, written in one of the five accepted languages, should be sent electronically (in Word format) to the e-mail address ate2009@apidt.com or uploaded through our website no later than 30 October 2008 [Extended until 19 December 2008]. After a double blinded refereeing process, authors will be notified regarding the acceptance of papers during the first week of December 2008 (for abstracts sent until October 30, 2008). The deadline for the final paper is 30 January 2009.
