Conference Objectives (versão antiga) nova em Welcome Message

This conference is the third under a biennial conference series on Advances in Tourism Economics (ATE). The 2009 conference is jointly organized by the Portuguese Association for Tourism Research and Development (APIDT) and the Research Centre in Tourism, Innovation and Services (CITIS) of Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa. This year's conference will be held in Lisbon, Portugal, on 23-24 April 2009, at the premises of Universidade Lusíada de Lisboa. The ATE conference series has now consolidated its objectives twofold, while aiming at bringing together prominent economists and other researchers interested on the tourism phenomenon to debate recent advances in the field, we have also developed over the years an associated publication series strongly committed at publishing a selection of papers presented in our conferences (see Publications menu for further details).

By focusing on the theme of recent advances in tourism economics and management, ATE2009 will provide for another opportunity for gathering, analysing and debating state-of-the-art academic research on this recent field of economic science. While keeping in mind that this conference series welcomes papers with a strong theoretical background, the 2009 conference intends to go beyond fundamental research by welcoming also papers providing empirical research and up to date information on the evolution of tourism destinations and products, sustainability and environment, planning and other subjects, namely on a case study basis. By doing so, the conference will provide for a better understanding of the rapidly growing tourism market worldwide, namely covering academic researchers and private investors that recognise qualified information and data as a competitive advantage in the marketplace.

Overall, the 2009 conference will continue to showcase the impact of academic research on tourism economics by addressing broad thematic ideas of high public interest not only among academics and practioners but also among a larger audience including students, teachers, policy-makers, private investors and the broader community.
